Scholarship for international students
International students can apply for a scholarship from the third semester onwards.
- The scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and are awarded according to the guidelines of the MKW or DAAD.
- The award is made by a selection committee consisting of members of different faculties. All information about the scholarships on the pages of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum are always subject to the provision of funds, i.e. the scholarships can only be awarded if the funding is provided by the MKW or DAAD.
- You will need a German or European bank account (with IBAN and BIC) for the payment of the scholarships.
Eligible are students:
- who are enrolled in a regular course of study at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum
- who have a foreign nationality
- who have not obtained their university entrance qualification (e.g. the Abitur) in Germany
- who are at least in third semester at RUB during the funding period (Exception: Master's students with a previous Bachelor's degree from RUB can also apply before the third semester)
- whose monthly income (except our scholarship) is up to 1030 Euros gross during the funding period
If you are naturalised (eingebürgert), you are no longer entitled to the scholarship.
- If you do not receive BAföG:
- 500€/month
- Over a six-month period
- If you receive BAföG at the same time:
- 300€/month
- Over a six-month period
- In addition to the financial support, there is an accompanying programme, with e.g. group meetings and individual consultation.
