Letter of motivation

The letter of motivation is a mandatory document for the scholarship application. We cannot consider your application without a letter of motivation.

Important!
  • The letter of motivation should be no longer than one page.
  • Please write the motivation letter as flowing text on the PC or laptop, not handwritten.

With the letter of motivation you introduce yourself to the selection committee and give your application a personal touch. Please use the following guiding questions:

  • Why am I applying for this scholarship?
  • Who am I, where do I come from and how do I live?
  • Why did I decide to study in Germany at the RUB?
  • Why did I choose my field of study?
  • What are my goals after graduation?
  • Why do I need this financial support?
  • What do I expect from the scholarship and the accompanying programme?
  • How can the scholarship help me achieve my goals (studies/career)?
  • Closing sentence and greeting

If you are facing any special personal circumstances, you can inform the selection committee about them in your motivation letter. Such circumstances may include:

  • the social and political situation in your country of origin
  • family responsibilities (e.g. studying with a child, caring for relatives, being the first in your family to attend university, etc.)
  • physical or mental health conditions or disabilities
