You are an international student and want to prepare yourself for the German labour market?

"uniWORKcity" makes sure to integrate international students into the German labour market already during their studies. The modular project offers competence enhancements in the fields of strategy development, job-related German, application training and empowerment elements as well as practical contacts for the development of a professional network.

The goal is to aid refugees and international students of all subjects in higher semesters in successfully obtaining a degree as well as to prepare them for the German labour market and its challenges before completing their course of study. Another purpose of this programme is the reduction of contact barriers to potential local employers, that many international students face after graduation.

In order to participate in the uniWORKcity project, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an international student (not a German citizenship; high school degree obtained abroad)
  • Be enrolled as a Bachelor or Master student in a higher term of any UniverCity institution in Bochum
  • Have at least a A2 German language proficiency

You will attend a weekly hybrid German course "Berufsbezogenes Deutsch" (Tuesdays 10 am - 12 pm at the Department German as a Foreign Language) and various inputs (Wednesdays 2 - 4 pm mainly via Zoom) on topics such as application preparation as well as numerous lectures and workshops on important topics such as residence and labour law, dealing with experiences of discrimination and industry-specific information.

Attendance of the regular uniWORKcity courses, Wednesdays from 2 to 4 pm during the lecture period, is mandatory. Participants are encouraged to attend all other digital courses and events. With regular attendance and participation in both the mandatory and additional uniWORKcity courses and events the course will be credited with 5 credit points in the Optionalbereich.

After completing the course participants will have developed a professional application portfolio and will receive a UniverCity certificate and will have improved their Business German!
