Frequently asked questions - Studienspur

General Questions

What does participation in the program cost?

The program Studienspur is free of charge for all participants. Learning materials (e.g. books) have to be paid for by the participants.

What is my status at RUB?

Participants in Studienspur are enrolled as guest students. This means:

  • Use of the RUB infrastructure (e.g. library, computers)
  • Participation in lectures possible (but no acquisition of credits)
  • RUB social contribution fee does not have to be paid
Can I choose the time of the German course?

No. The German courses in Studienspur take place in the afternoon, approx. 2-6 pm. You cannot attend in the morning.

My qualifications are not sufficient and I have to attend a preparatory college. Can I still take part in Studienspur?

We offer the Studienspur Plus program for people with an indirect HZB. You can catch up on subject-specific content and then start studying at RUB. Please come to our office hours for further advice.

What does "propaedeutic" mean?

Our propaedeutic program will prepare you specifically for studying in Germany. You will get to know Ruhr-Universität Bochum and acquire study-relevant skills. You can find more information about the propaedeutic program here.

How long does my participation in Studienspur take?

This depends on your language level at the beginning. One level normally lasts 3 months. The B2 course lasts 6 months. If you start with us at level A1, you will normally reach level C1 after 18 months.

Questions about the Application

My application is not working. Why is that?

Please note the following instructions for your application:

  • Confirm the registration link. If necessary, check the spam folder of your e-mail account.
  • It is best to use a laptop or PC for your application. Do not fill out the application on your cell phone.
  • Upload all files in PDF format only. The files should not be larger than 5 MB.
  • Make sure that you have filled in all fields.
  • Try registering with a new e-mail address and filling out the application again.
  • If you have problems, use a different Internet browser.
I am already studying at another university in Germany. Can I apply for Studienspur?

No. Studienspur is a preparatory program, therefore only people who are not enrolled at a German university are accepted.

I have applied for Studienspur before, but was not accepted. Can I apply again?

Yes, you can mention in your application that you are a repeat applicant. We will consider this positively.

I am not in Germany, but I am planning to enter Germany. Can I apply?

No. We only accept applicants with a registered address in Germany.

When will I receive an answer to my application?

It takes some time to review all applications. You will receive an acceptance or rejection letter in mid-August (for the winter semester) or mid-February (for the summer semester).

My residence permit has expired / is no longer valid. How can I apply?

Please upload your current residence permit (front and back). If available, please upload your fictitious certificate or confirmation of appointment from the foreigners authority.

Studienspur Plus

How can I apply for Studienspur Plus?

The same application portal is used for Studienspur and Studienspur Plus. Please apply in full via the application portal. The Admissions Office will check your documents. If you have an indirect university entrance qualification, you will automatically take part in the application procedure for Studienspur Plus.

I do not have a direct university entrance qualification. Can I study medicine after Study Track Plus?

You can only study certain subjects with the TestAS. We offer specialized courses for mathematics and natural sciences or humanities and social subjects. It is not possible to study medicine.
