Participation requirements?

You can apply if. . .

  • You are interested in studying at Ruhr University Bochum
  • You have either
    • a residence status as a refugee in Germany (for example, a residence permit as a refugee, Aufenthaltsgestattung, family reunification, a residence title pursuant to Section 24 of the Residence Act (Aufenthaltsgesetz, AufenthG)...),
    • fled Ukraine and are staying in Germany with your Ukrainian passport, ID or Ukrainian residence title without a German residence title according to the statutory order from March 9th, 2022 (Ukraine-Aufenthalts-Übergangsverordnung)
    • or a visa for study preparation in Germany
  • You have a university entrance qualification (HZB) (for example, the Abitur, a Bachelor's or Master's degree)

How can I apply?

Studienspur is offered multiple times a year.

Application deadlines

  • Applications for the summer semester 2025 are not longer possible.
  • The application phase for the winter semester 2025/26 is expected to begin in July 2025.

The entire application process takes place online via our application portal. You cannot submit documents in person or by post.

What documents do I need for the application?

For the application you need the following documents as a PDF document:

  • front and back of your residence permit
  • School report as scans of the original document and as officially certified translations of the original documents (German, English or French)
  • if available, proof of the completed university entrance examination (e.g. from Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, etc.) as scans of the original document and as officially certified translations of the original documents (German, English or French)
  • if available, proof of academic achievements, e.g. Transcript of Records as scans of the original document and as officially certified translations of the original documents (German, English or French)
  • if available, degree certificate from the university + list of individual grades as scans of the original document and as officially certified translations of the original documents (German, English or French)
  • possible marriage certificate, if the name on the transcript does not match the name your residence title
  • a passport photo for your student ID card
  • if available, proof of having completed a German course

You will upload the documents to the online form when you apply. The examination of your documents exclusively takes place online. However, you should be prepared for your original certificates to be requested by the Admissions Office.
