The Onboarding course is aimed at newly admitted international students on all English-language Master's degree programs. It accompanies and supports international students right at the beginning of the introductory phase of their studies.
The Onboarding course takes place during the winter semester. During the lecture period, you will attend courses with a scope of 2 SWS (semester hours per week), plus block courses during the lecture-free period.
The content enables better integration into everyday university life and the degree program. Communication within and outside the university, academic integration, social exchange and intercultural skills will be strengthened.

You will acquire and improve skills such as literature research, as well as program-specific preparatory courses. These competencies are particularly relevant to your chosen field of study.
You participate in an intercultural training where you engage with topics such as cultural sensitivity. In addition, you acquire important soft skills in the Coaching Studio offered by the Psychological Counseling Service, including presentation, communication, time management, and stress management – all essential for a successful academic experience.
The International Welcome offered by the International Office provides a diverse program of online and in-person events to help you get started with your studies at RUB. In addition, you receive program-specific support from your degree program as well as individual assistance through peer-to-peer counseling.
Excursions to culturally relevant institutions offer opportunities to expand your knowledge and become more familiar with the university’s surroundings. In addition, socializing events provide a chance to network and build social connections.
After successfully completing the onboarding course, you will receive a certificate attesting to the knowledge and skills you have acquired.
In the future, it will also be possible to receive credit for the course. For more information on whether you can earn credit points (CP) for it in your respective degree program, please contact your academic advisory service.
