Onboarding course for international students

The Onboarding course is aimed at newly admitted international students on all English-language Master's degree programs. It accompanies and supports international students right at the beginning of the introductory phase of their studies.

The Onboarding course takes place during the winter semester. During the lecture period, you will attend courses with a scope of 2 SWS (semester hours per week), plus block courses during the lecture-free period.

The content enables better integration into everyday university life and the degree program. Communication within and outside the university, academic integration, social exchange and intercultural skills will be strengthened.

The information on the course content is preliminary. Further and more specific information will be available here shortly.

The following course contents are offered:

Language

German courses and technical language courses in English are offered in this area. You can also exchange ideas with other students in the language café.

Study-related skills

You can learn and improve skills such as data literacy, literature research, academic learning and writing and the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Study-specific events increase the relevance for your own degree program.

Intercultural skills

You will attend an Intercultural Training in which you will deal with topics such as cultural sensitivity in interactive workshops.

In the "Germany in a Nutshell" lecture, you will learn more about Germany and also strengthen your intercultural skills.

Information, counseling, orientation

The International Welcome of the International Office offers you a varied program of online and face-to-face events to help you start your studies at RUB.

You can also obtain further counseling from your student advisory service and through tutorials.

Culture and networking

Excursions to culturally relevant institutions allow students to expand their knowledge and get to know the environment of the university better.

Socializing events offer the opportunity to network and build social ties.

Certificate and accreditation

After successfully completing the onboarding course, you will receive a certificate attesting to the knowledge and skills you have acquired.

In the future, it will also be possible to receive credit for the course. For more information on whether you can earn credit points (CP) for it in your respective degree program, please contact your academic advisory service.
