International Welcome

As an international student, you will face many different challenges at the beginning of your studies. Our goal is to support you from the start and help you feel comfortable and find your way in your new environment.

Programme summer term 2025

The International Welcome already starts with information events well before the semester begins. The RUBiss team offers the following preparatory events in February/March 2025:

• Preparatory webinar for international regular students (students starting a Bachelor's or Master's degree)
• Preparatory webinar for exchange students (students studying at RUB for one or two semesters)

Online events

During this period, one online event will take place every day at 2 p.m. (UTC +1) each of which deals with a topic related to life and study in Bochum.

• Monday, 17.03.2025: Welcome event “Starting your studies” - Important information for starting your studies
  • in German and English simultaneously
• Tuesday, 18.03.2025: RUB 101 - Technical requirements for studying at RUB
  • in German and English simultaneously
• Wednesday, 19.03.2025: New in Bochum: Important information about administrative procedures (city registration & foreigners office); additionally, our student staff will give you tips on (affordable) student life in Bochum
• Thursday, 20.03.2025: How do I finance my studies at RUB? Information on study financing
  • in German and English simultaneously
• Friday, 21.03.2025: Labor law for international students
  • Presentation in German, slides in German and English. However, there is the possibility to ask questions in English.

Face-to-face events

You will get to know the RUB campus and important local institutions during the on-campus events.

• Friday, 04.04.2025:
  • 12:00 p.m.: Campus tours of the RUB campus - Here you will be guided around the campus in small groups by our volunteer campus guides (local RUB students from your faculty) and get to know the buildings and important contact points.

  • 5:00 p.m.: Dinner together in the Rote Bete (Mensa)(Link downloads document) - Here you can get to know your new fellow students and the Campus Guides over a “typical German” dinner and network. You can also expect some fun games.

  • 3:00 p.m. - City tours through Bochum

• Sunday, 06.04.2025:
  • 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.: Workshop: Living Diversity - Communication, Reflection and Empowerment - This workshop will enable you to explore cultural similarities and differences, understand values and improve your communication skills for a transcultural environment. Ideal for your start in Germany!
