Frequently Asked Questions - University Entrance Scholarships

I don't understand the regulation on entry. What is meant by the five years?

Up to five years may pass between entry into Germany and the start of funding through an NRWege scholarship.

Example: The funding begins in October 2024 (winter semester 2024/25) and is the first funding through a scholarship. Entering Germany must then have taken place after October 2019. (October 2019 + 5 years = October 2024).

There are two exceptions:

1. up to two years can be taken into account if you can prove that you have spent time raising children, caring for relatives or have been ill. This means that up to seven years may elapse between your entry into Germany and your first funding through NRWege.

2. If you have already received funding through the NRWege programme, this can count as the start of funding. This could be, for example, participation in certain study preparation programmes (e.g. Studienspur at RUB).
