Arrival and Residence

• Attend a Welcome Session, if you haven’t already
• Register with the city where you live (once you have moved into your accommodation)
• Open a bank account (this is often only possible once you have a confirmation of registration)
• For doctoral students: Enroll at RUB, if applicable
• You can book a welcome consultation at the Welcome Office of the city of Bochum
• Depending on your situation, you will receive your LoginID in different ways:
  • Employees automatically receive a LoginID upon starting their employment
  • Enrolled students automatically receive a LoginID after matriculation
  • For all other researchers, the host department must request a LoginID if necessary
  • If you already have eduroam access via another institution, you can use it to access the WI-FI at RUB
  • If you need a temporary guest account for the first few weeks of your stay (until you receive your LoginID), we can set it up for you. To do so, please send us the completed and signed declaration.
• There is no library card for RUB libraries; you can borrow books via the RUB Bib app, for which you need an account:
  • Employees automatically receive a library account via their LoginID
  • Enrolled students automatically receive a library account via their LoginID
  • Other researchers who are registered with the city they reside in can apply for access to the University Library themselves. If a LoginID is requested for them by their host chair, we recommend waiting for it so that their account can be linked to it.
  • Other researchers who are not registered with the city they reside in can apply for access through the Welcome Center: welcome-centre@rub.de.
