As part of the Erasmus programme students, postgraduates and personnel with a minimum of 20 on the German degree of disability (Grad der Behinderung) and students with children are eligible to receive additional funding.

Additional funding for handicapped Erasmus participants

As part of the Erasmus programme students, postgraduates and personnel with a minimum of 20 on the German degree of disability (Grad der Behinderung - GdB) are eligible to receive additional funding.


In addition to the regular monthly Erasmus installments, participants may also apply for an increase of up to the maximum according to their specific country group.

If, in the case of a disability of 50 GdB or more, additional costs arise due to the stay abroad that are not otherwise covered by another national agency (Integrationsämter, Krankenkassen, Landschaftsverbände, Sozialämter, Studentenwerk), participants can apply for additional funding from the ERASMUS+ programme (maximum possible €10,000). These extra costs must be presented and proven in the application.


The application has to be submitted at least two months prior to the start of the mobility.

Following your time abroad with Erasmus, you are to submit a report which details how your handicap influenced your experience abroad.

Students with (a) child(ren)

Additional funding for Erasmus participants with children

Erasmus participants who plan on bringing their child(ren) with them abroad are eligible to receive additional funding. This offer is not available for Erasmus internship participants.

In addition to the regular monthly Erasmus installments according to your specific country group, participants may receive a fixed monthly rate of €250 (independent from the number of children).

To apply for this additional funding, your home university must be informed in writing or verbally about your additional needs. Your child(ren) must be accompanied by a copy of the birth certificate(s) as well as travel receipts and proof of care (daycare/school).
