Erasmus blended intensive programmes

The new Erasmus blended intensive programme (BIP) funding combines the delivery of virtual courses with a short stay abroad, providing financial support for travelling students and teachers alike.

The most important general conditions

  • A BIP is a course consisting of a joint group meeting in presence (length: five to 30 days) and a virtual phase before and/or after.
  • At least three higher education institutions (HEI) from three different Erasmus participating countries plan the BIP together
  • Bilateral inter-institutional Erasmus agreements between the organising HEI and the participating institutions are concluded in advance (by the International Offices)
  • Erasmus funding: Either funding of the organising teaching unit through organisational funds for the implementation of the BIP in Germany or funding of the mobile participants for the implementation of the BIP abroad.
  • At least 10 to 20 mobile Erasmus-funded student participants
  • At least three ECTS are awarded for students

If you are interested in organising a BIP at RUB, you can find more information below. Please feel free to contact us early on for an orientation consultation.

You teach at RUB and would like to co-organise a BIP at a partner university? Please inform us early so that formalities such as the conclusion of the Inter-Institutional Agreement can be prepared and students can apply for a scholarship.

Information for students who would like to participate in a BIP can be found here.

How do I apply for a BIP to be hosted at the RUB?

  • The International Office (IO) receives funding for the implementation of BIPs at RUB as part of the annual application for Erasmus funding. You are a teacher at RUB and would like to conduct a BIP? Please contact the Erasmus coordination in the IO as early as possible, no later than six months before the planned start of the BIP so that the framework conditions can be discussed and financial support can be planned.

How is a BIP organised?

  • The organisation of a BIP is usually taken over by the HEI where the physical joint phase of the programme is to take place. Together with the partners - at least two other HEIs in Erasmus participating countries - a course concept is developed combining a virtual and physical phase. The minimum two project partners participate in the BIP as collaborating institutions and send participants (and possibly also teachers) to the hosting HEI during the physical phase as part of an Erasmus grant for a short stay (for teachers with an Erasmus teacher mobility grant).
  • After a successful BIP, the Programme coordinator submits a report (qualitative and quantitative) on the results of the BIP to the Erasmus+ coordinator in the IO.

What funding is available for a BIP at RUB?

  • Amount of funding
The coordinating HEI receives organisational funding for a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 mobile participants travelling to RUB. BIPs with fewer than 10 funded participants are not possible. In addition, further participants without Erasmus funding can take part in the BIP. The organisational funds amount to €400 per participant, i.e. a total of €6,000 to €8,000 per BIP. As a rule, 2/3 of these funds are distributed to the programme organisation in the faculty, while 1/3 remain in the IO.
  • Financially viable costs
The organisational funds should cover the initiation, development, implementation and administrative costs of the BIP. Costs that can be financed include, for example, the preparation of documents and teaching materials, room bookings, procurement of materials, the implementation of excursions during the attendance phase (for example, travel costs or entrance tickets), communication measures and catering.
