As an international student, you will face many different challenges at the beginning of your studies. Our goal is to support you from the start and help you feel comfortable and find your way in your new environment.

The RUBiss team offers the following preparatory events:

August

• Preparatory webinar for international regular students (students starting a Bachelor's or Master's degree)
• Preparatory webinar for exchange students (students studying at RUB for one or two semesters)
• Friday, August 21, 2026, 11:00 am: Information session on health insurance in Germany
  • Topics: What health insurance providers are available? Should I choose public or private insurance? What are the benefits? When do I have to start paying premiums?
  • Held in English only

September

• Monday, September 28, 2026, 2:00 pm: Welcome event “Starting Your Studies” and the RUB Basics
  • Important information about starting your studies and technical requirements for studying at the RUB
  • In German and English simultaneously
• Tuesday, September 29, 2026, 2:00 pm: New to Bochum
  • Important information on dealing with government offices (city registration & Foreigners’ Office); in addition, our student staff will give you tips on how to make the most of your student life in Bochum on a budget

• Wednesday, September 30, 2026, 2:00 pm: How do I finance my studies at RUB?
  • Information on funding your studies, scholarships, part-time jobs, etc.

October

• Thursday, October 8, 2026, 11:00 am: Campus tours of the RUB campus
  • Here, you’ll be guided around the campus in small groups by our volunteer campus guides (local RUB students from your faculty) and get to know the buildings and important points of contact.
  • Meeting point: In front of the Student Service Center (SSC) by the large stone steps (RUB campus map)
• Friday, October 9, 2026, 3:00 pm: City tours of Bochum
  • Meeting point: Bochum Central Station, in front of the “Innenstadt” exit
• Thursday, October 15, 2026, 4:00 p.m.: Official welcome on campus
