4TH NOVEMBER 2020: Welcome Hour with RUB Research School

This event is aimed particularly at our new, international PhD students. Together with the RUB Reseach School we will give you an overview of our services. While the Research School will support you especially with academic issues during your stay, the Welcome Centre will advise you on visa and residence, insurances, bureaucratic matters, free time activities etc. Furthermore, we will give you an overview of our events in the upcoming semester that you are most welcome to join.

You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

14TH NOVEMBER 2020: Online Live City Walk of Bochum

Instead of our traditional Bochum by bus tour, this semester we are looking forward to invite you - in line with the current Covid-19 regulations - to a virtual guided city walk of Bochum.
A official guide of the municipality will visit the most important and worth seeing parts of the city and you will be watching live - safely from the comfort of your own home.
In this guided tour in English you will learn fascinating historical and current facts about Bochum and the Ruhr area.

9TH DECEMBER 2020: Welcome to Germany!

When you move to a foreign country, many things are unknown and new. Therefore, we would like to familiarize you with life in Germany and German culture. We will talk about what is "typically German" and which traditions and customs exist in Germany. We would also like to learn something about the traditions in your home countries.

16TH JANUARY 2021: Virtual Guided Tour at the „Haus der Geschichte“ in Bonn

Accompany us to Bonn to the fascinating "Haus der Geschichte" - comfortably from home! Adapted to the current Covid-19 regulations, this semester we offer you a virtual tour through one of the most visited museums in Germany. Experience German history from 1945 to the present day by means of historical objects that are brought to life for the visitors at the "Haus der Geschichte".

The tour will take about 90 minutes. Afterwards, our expert Prof. Dr. Jeremy Wasser will be happy to answer your questions in a Q&A.

21ST JANUARY 2021: Meet the Expert: Income Taxes in Germany

We would like to invite all international researchers, their families and hosts at RUB, who are interested in the topic of tax law with special regard to income taxation, to an information meeting.
Our expert will answer questions like:

When am I liable to income tax?
How is the income taxed that I receive for my research in Germany?
As an international researcher, do I have to submit a tax declaration?
Which aspects are important for married couples when the partners work in different countries?

29TH JANUARY 2021: Digital Guided Tour "Stoneage digital" at the LWL Museum in Herne

In cooperation with our neighbour university Duisburg-Essen, we would like to invite you to a fascinating digital tour through the LWL Museum of Archaeology in Herne!
Take a look with us deep below the surface, beneath which the relics of human history lie hidden. In the permanent exhibition of the LWL Museum of Archaeology, you will follow an excavation walkway through an artificial excavation landscape past Bronze Age graves and Roman wells, through Neanderthal caves and a medieval town.

During the tour you will have the opportunity to comment, interact and ask questions. The LWL Museum would like to offer an experience as similar as possible to a regular visit.
