Erasmus mobility - training

To help foster internationalisation, Erasmus facilitates further education and training measures for higher education staff in participating programme countries.

The stay of higher education staff can be funded at another host higher education institution or at any other appropriate institution established in a participating Erasmus programme country. The duration of the stay abroad can be from two days to up to two months; as a rule, stays of about one week are usually funded.

Programme benefits

Funding is provided for travel and subsistence costs up to a maximum of five days in accordance with EU unit costs staggered by destination country.

Participants with a disability (GdB 20 or a proven disability that causes additional costs) or a chronic illness that causes additional costs and participants who are accompanied by their child/children on the mobility can apply for the compensation of the real costs resulting from the mobility. The application must be sent to the DAAD at least 2 months for begin of the mobility. For staff mobilities the maximum funding is 15,000 EUR per mobility.

Financial support for Erasmus mobility for teaching or training purposes is based on the different costs of living in the destination countries ("programme countries"). Uniform daily rates apply for funding by German higher education institutions:

Group 1:
€180 per day for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the programme country Great Britain

Group 2:
€160 per day for Estonia, Czech Republik, Cyprus, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain

Group 3:
€140 per day for Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey

These daily rates are supplemented by travel costs depending on the actual distances between the place of departure and destination of the mobility, which are determined uniformly throughout Europe using a calculation tool.

The following amounts are reimbursed, dependent on your length of stay and the distance from your home and host institutions:

Tips and information

The Erasmus staff mobility is not a 1:1 exchange programme. However, you should be prepared in principle to receive a return visit. Please note that you must have appropriate language skills in order to be able to carry out your training stay in a meaningful way. Do not forget to make arrangements for time off or similar with your supervisor.
