Prof. Dr. Sandra Goulart Almeida
Sandra Goulart Almeida is a Professor of Comparative Literature at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil
She is also a fellow researcher of the Brazilian Funding Agency for Research (CNPq). She holds both a Master's and a Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. She further enhanced her academic experience as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York from 2000 to 2001. She served as the President of UFMG from 2018 to 2026. She is currently the Chair of the Governing Council of the International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC/UNESCO). She is a member of the National Council of Science and Technology (CCT/MCTI), the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Accreditation Agency (INEP), and the Special Commission to monitor the implementation of the National Graduate Plan (PNPG 2025-2029). She also serves as a member of the Administrative Council of the International Association of Universities (IAU). In recognition of her contributions, she has been granted the title of Honorary Citizen of Belo Horizonte by the City Council. Almeida's work focuses on Comparative Literature and English Language Literatures. Her research primarily explores contemporary literature, literary theory and criticism, and contemporary women’s writings.
