Professor Isolde Karle has been a professor of Practical Theology at Ruhr University Bochum since 2001, specializing in homiletics, liturgy, and pastoral care. She earned her doctorate in Kiel in 1995 and completed her habilitation in Bonn in 2000.
In 2014, Isolde Karle received an offer from Humboldt University in Berlin, which she declined. Since 2015, she has been the director of the Institute for Religion and Society, founded in 2015. In addition, she is a member of various academic societies. Her research focuses on gender and diversity studies, the sociology of religion, pastoral care, spiritual care, professional theory, and sexual violence.
Since November 2021, she has served as Vice Rector for Diversity, Inclusion, and Talent Development. She is the first Vice Rector for Diversity at Ruhr University Bochum and has had a significant impact on the university by establishing a diversity governance framework and strategy.
