Katariina is a student representative and advocate for students’ rights, with a particular passion for academic freedom and the fundamental values of higher education.
She currently represents students at the European level through her work in the European Students’ Union (ESU) as an executive committee member, where she contributes to policy development and advocacy on issues related to democracy, participation, quality education and student rights across the European Higher Education Area.
Before joining ESU, Katariina served for two years as the president of the Federation of Estonian Student Unions (EÜL), representing Estonian students in national and international policy discussions and institutional governance. During her years in the student movement, she has worked on a wide range of topics, including academic freedom, the social dimension, quality assurance, student participation, and the protection of fundamental values in higher education at the local, national, and European levels.
Katariina is pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations and Regional Studies and holds an educational background in communications, journalism and economics. She is passionate about democratic education systems and meaningful student participation.
