Mitra Shamsi is a postdoctoral research fellow based at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS), Bochum, Germany.
Her research focuses on digital feminist activism in the Iranian context, examining the construction of digital feminist discourses as they traverse both inside the country and within the diaspora.
In her current research trajectory, she is interested in ways in which digital/hybrid feminist campaigners navigate and respond to patriarchal nationalist narratives.
She has held visiting fellowships at the Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, the Institute for Feminist Legal Studies, York University, and Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities, Erasmus University Rotterdam.
She completed her PhD in Media and Communication Studies at the University of Tehran in January 2023.
Before her academic journey, she worked as a senior research and development lead at the Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IRANDOC).
