Executive Director, Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF)
Bencharat Sae Chua is the director of the Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF) and a lecturer at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP) at Mahidol University, Thailand.
Her research interests include social movements, contention over the meanings of democracy and human rights, and the state of human rights in authoritarian regimes.
She has been working closely with pro-democracy movements and initiatives on human rights education in Southeast Asia and beyond.
After the 2021 military coup in Myanmar, Bencharat has been leading a program to continue to provide human rights education and research mentorship support to students and scholars affected by the military rule in Myanmar.
