Orientation Course

The International Office offers an Orientation Course (O-Kurs) for exchange students at the start of each winter and summer term.

What is the Orientation Course?

The Orientation Course offers you the opportunity to improve your German language skills, meet other students and to familiarise yourself with Bochum and the surrounding area two weeks before the start of your exchange programme. In addition, with the support of our tutors, you will be assisted in the handling of formalities to be completed at the beginning of your stay.

The participation fee for the Orientation Course for the winter semester 2024/25 is €160.

Duration: September 13, 2024 - September 27, 2024.

Orientation Course Program

The Orientation Course programme includes

German lessons (2 weeks)
1 ECTS
Support with necessary formalities
Information events at the start of studies
Getting to know the university campus and the city of Bochum
Leisure program and excursions
Contact with international and German students
Support and guidance from our student tutors during the course period

All participants will receive the detailed programme by email shortly before the start of the Orientation Course and on the first day at the official welcome.

Orientation Course Plus (O-Course Plus)

In addition to the well-known two-week O-course format, the O-Course Plus is offered for the first time. This course is aimed at selected students who have already completed the B1 German language level. You start the O-Course Plus in a small group 1.5 weeks before the regular start. After these 1.5 weeks, the O-Course Plus merges seamlessly into the regular O-Course. You will reach a German language level B2.1 in a total of 3.5 weeks and earn 3 ECTS credits.

The participation fee for the O-Course Plus in the winter semester 2024/25 is 240.00 euros.
