Internship at RUB

You are interested in doing an internship at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB)? You will find all the information you need here.

Information on Applying for an Internship

If you are interested in doing an internship (e.g. Erasmus) at Ruhr University Bochum, first find out whether there are internship opportunities suitable for you in the corresponding faculty. Here you will find a list of all faculties at RUB and their websites.

You must apply for an internship with your faculty of choice directly, as the International Office does not arrange internships.

For internship inquiries, we recommend that you send the following documents with your application directly:

  • CV / Curriculum Vitae (German or English)
  • Letter of motivation (including a short description of your field of interest)
  • Acquired certificates (if available)

Once you have received an internship offer and found a suitable supervisor, there is nothing standing in the way of your internship at the Ruhr Uni!

Please remember that you will need health insurance for the duration of your internship, which is mandatory in Germany.

Furthermore, it is recommended to take out accident insurance as well as liability insurance, which covers the costs of unintentionally caused damage.

Enrollment at RUB

If the duration of your internship is longer than two months, we recommend that you enroll at RUB as an exchange student. To do so, please contact us by email at rubiss@rub.de.

Please note that if you enrol as an exchange student, you will have to pay the full social contribution fee of approximately €325 per semester (the amount may vary from semester to semester).

This contribution includes, among other things, the semester ticket for public transportation throughout Germany.

Please keep in mind that if your internship takes place across two or more semesters, you have to pay the social contribution for each semester. Please refer to our academic calendar when making your arrangements.

Important: If you arrive after the start of the semester or leave before the end of the semester, you are entitled to a partial refund of the social contribution fee (i.e. the portion allotted to the semester ticket).

You can find out more about a possible refund here .

Please also note the health insurance requirements for enrollment.
