Internationally distinguished scientists and researchers

RUB is in great demand as a host for internationally renowned researchers from all over the world; this is evidenced not least by the high number of researchers who have been awarded a grant from the European Research Council and its excellent ranking among the top 13 in the current Humboldt Rankings (2020).

Researchers from all over the world who come to the RUB benefit not only from the outstanding and lively academic exchange and interdisciplinary networking, but also from the comprehensive services provided by the university's Welcome Centre.

Here incoming international researchers can find information and advice for their time in Bochum, for example regarding visa matters and finding accommodation, but also tips for leisure activities as well as a wide range of offers for exchanges with other international academics at RUB.

Excellent international promotion/development of scientific and research talent

RUB attaches great importance to the tailored support of outstanding young academics from all over the world and their international profiling right from the start. Therefore, RUB enables them to develop a broad variety of excellent international research skills and international networks required for an international research career. To this end, RUB offers a broad repertoire of international scientific and research programmes for Early Career Researchers. These are supplemented by a range of international mobility schemes and support programmes.

EU Training Networks (Marie Sklodowska Curie Action, International Training Networks)

The EU Training Networks (Marie Sklodowska Curie Action, International Training Networks) are among the most prestigious international programmes for the promotion of young researchers. At present, RUB is involved in ten such EU Training Networks, two of which are coordinated at/by RUB.

RUB Research School

The university-wide RUB Research School, which has received several awards in the Excellence Initiative and beyond, is internationally regarded as a best-practice model for the career development of doctoral students. It especially provides them with a range of international qualification/training programmes, international mobility and networking opportunities.

To this end, it offers a whole range of international funding programmes to support project-related research stays abroad, the organisation of international conferences on campus or international lectureships at RUB, to name but a few.

Research Academy Ruhr

In the Research Academy Ruhr, RUB, the TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg Essen combine their excellent offers for international networking and international career development of Early Career Researchers, especially for postdocs, junior research group leaders and junior professors.
