Workshop "Civil courage and solidarity on RUB-campus" by UNSER CAMPUS

Unfortunately the event had to be cancelled.

Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same struggles, or that our pain is the same pain, or that our hope is for the same future. Solidarity involves commitment, and work, as well as the recognition that even if we do not have the same feelings, or the same lives, or the same bodies, we do live on common ground. (Sara Ahmed)

The project "OUR CAMPUS" aims to inform and educate about sexism in higher education, to raise awareness for personal boundaries and to promote solidarity and civically courageous behaviour on the campus of the Ruhr-University Bochum.

Civil courage does not only encompass the accomplishment of great societal deeds but also small acts of solidarity in everyday life. While sexist incidents and sexualized discrimination are, unfortunately, a part of our everyday lives the courageous act of standing up for others as civil courage can be trained.

In this workshop, participants will try to interpret and assess everyday sexist and sexualized situations. Furthermore, they will develop various realistic and personally feasible courses of action. The workshop helps to develop action-oriented skills that allow participants to courageously intervene in situations of sexist behaviour or sexualized threats and contribute to resolving conflicts through understanding and communication.
