Volunteering as Campus Guide

Become a Campus Guide!

Every semester, the International Office looks for dedicated and open-minded student volunteers, who as “Campus Guides” help guide international students through German life and their first weeks at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

In order to ease international students into their new lives on campus, the International Office’s RUBiss team organizes “Orientation Days” for all new incoming exchange and regular degree seeking international students every semester (for the winter semester either beginning or middle of October, and for the summer semester either beginning or middle of April). As part of Orientation Days, important formalities pertinent to studying at RUB are completed, academic counseling is provided and students are exposed to German culture and Bochum’s surrounding area through various events and excursions. And what better way to accomplish this than through the assistance and guidance from actual RUB students - Campus Guides!?

As a “Campus Guide,” you will get the chance to enlarge the scope of your intercultural competence, meet students from around the world as well as practice and expand your foreign language proficiency. You will also be a very important contact for your new foreign fellow students, allowing them practical support pertaining to German culture and language.

To prepare for your task as a Campus Guide, we offer a training for tutors.

For your dedication as a Campus Guide, you will receive a certificate verifying your volunteer services at the end of the semester.

Please visit one of our information sessions if you want to participate in the Campus Guide project:
