Accommodation
We urge to you to start looking for accommodation in Germany for you and your family as soon as possible. It would be wise to do this several months before your arrival in Bochum.
Guest houses
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) has two guest houses for visiting researchers. These are the "International Guest House" and the "House of Nations". Both guest houses are located in close proximity to the university. You can submit an accommodation request via your host department and your mentor will book your desired accommodation.
"International Guest House"
This house has 15 accommodation units, divided up into one-, two- and three-room apartments with shower and toilet. All apartments are equipped with a telephone and internet access. There is also a common room with a television, a lounge with a fireplace, a separate playroom for children, laundry and drying rooms and a large garden with a children's play area (sandpit etc.). All apartments are provided with garden furniture for the balcony or terrace in the summer months. The “Warmmiete” (rent including costs for utilities) varies depending on size.

"House of Nations"
This house has 39 accommodation units, divided up into one-, two- and three-room apartments with shower and toilet. All apartments are equipped with a telephone and internet access. There is a common room, a children’s playroom with a television, a reception area and laundry and drying rooms. This house also has a large garden with a play area (including a sandpit and a swing), and all apartments are provided with garden furniture in the summer for the balcony or terrace.

Accommodation for RUB guests
RUB offers its guests fully furnished flats which are situated in a quiet neighbourhood in Bochum-Querenburg, in close proximity to the university.
The flats are suitable for singles, as well as families or flat-sharing communities. Families may also request an additional child's bed, and there are nurseries and schools nearby.
The flats are rented out on a monthly basis so you can decide how long you would like to stay.

A lot of accommodation is advertised in the "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" – WAZ (available at kiosks), and in the free local magazine "Stadtspiegel Bochum". (You cannot buy the "Stadtspiegel". It is published on Wednesdays and Saturdays and is distributed to households and public places such as shops, cafés and so on).
