Before my ERASMUS stay, I felt stuck. I was studying languages (English, German, and Spanish) and my skills were too limited. I wanted to conclude my Bachelor’s degree with a year in the ERASMUS programme, because I was afraid my degree would be meaningless without it.

When I said to my German acquaintances that I would spend the next year in Bochum, in the heart of the Ruhr area, I was often met with laughter. Bochum is grey. The Ruhrgebiet is boring. The Bochumers speak weirdly.

What I found was the perfect German campus: organised, square, well built. And that was exactly the effect RUB had on me. It transferred some of its structure and efficiency on to me.

I had the time of my life during these few 11 months. I would be a complete different person today, one with only half the chops I am now proud to claim are mine.
